Sustainability

From inception, the firms’ architectural philosophy has focused on sustainability. Eco-friendly architecture is achieved with a balance of cutting edge technology and energy efficient systems combined with traditional, passive principles (orientation, shading, and natural ventilation) that have a continued relevance to the South African lifestyle.  The director, Prakasen Govender has taught design and building science at major academic institutions in Durban and continues to be actively involved in architectural education and professional bodies.

We offer full architectural and interior design services and we are affiliated with numerous professional bodies in the industry.

Types of Architectural Services:

• Limited Service: we design the building and complete drawings up to the municipal submission stage.
• Extended Service: we design the building, complete drawings up to the municipal submission stage and include a selection of key construction drawings.
• Full Service: we design the building, complete drawings up to the municipal submission stage and include a selection of key construction drawings as well as supervising the tender process and construction on site.

Types of Interior Design Services:

• Design and Specification: we design the building and complete drawings and specifications only.
• Design, Supply and Install: we design the building, complete drawings and specifications as well as procuring the relevant furnishings and installing them  in the space.

PGA Architects strives to be on the cutting edge of new technology to increase pro-active production and assist in the creation of innovative buildings. We believe in re-investing in our practice. We operate from our own office premises in Durban North and Johannesburg. We are Archicad, AutoCAD and Revit orientated with a linked LAN facility incorporating plotters and printers.

Offering apartments, retail and office spaces including our new corporate head office, PGA Park (scheduled for completion in April 2011) is a sleek, modern design that makes ample use of steel and glass with sun shading devices for energy efficiency. It is a functionally flexible building with a distinct visual identity.  It is iconic status in the practices’ portfolio is the use of local materials, craftsmanship and design to create a proudly South African building.
